Well Organised Waves Pick Up Win in Cork

It was a strong defensive performance for DLR Waves against Cork City on the weekend in a tight game.

The Waves started the better of the too sides with Nadine Seward causing problems going forward. It was Seward who was brought down in the Cork box which saw the ref award a penalty. Keelin Dodd stepped up and confidently converted to give DLR the lead.

From there Cork grew into the game and The Waves had to be strong in defence. Eve Badana was called into action to make several big saves. Both sides had chances to close out the opening 45 but it remaind 0-1 to the visitors.

In the second half DLR were well-organized at the back with Chloe McCarthy in particular putting in a good performance at right-back. The game died down a bit as the half went on with The Waves controlling the action well and cutting out Cork chances.

Keelin Dodd, Eve Badana, Nadine Seward, and Chloe McCarthy were stand out performers on the day. Badana pulled off a few big saves with McCarthy doing good work to ensure DLR kept a clean sheet. Dodd worked tirelessly in midfield to help The Waves control the game. Seward caused problems for her former side throughout her 85 minutes on the pitch.

All in all it was a game DLR Waves controlled well and deservedly picked up 3 points from.

DLR Waves are idle this weekend before their final game of the season. The 2024 campaign wraps up with a Dublin Derby at Dalymount Park when The Waves take on Bohemians. The game is on October 12th with a 17:00 kick-off.
