DLR Waves 0-5 Athlone Town
SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division
Saturday 12th April, Carlisle Grounds
DLR Waves put in an improved performance against Athlone Town, but the league champions were ruthless in attack in the second half to win comfortably.
In truth the 0-5 scoreline was harsh on The Waves who played well for most of the game. The 5-goal margin speaks more towards the quality of the 2024 Premier Division winners than the performance of DLR.
The Carlisle Grounds in Bray was the venue for a match which was competitive in the first half. It was Athlone who opened the scoring through their captain Madison Gibson. Despite creating chances Athlone were the only side that could find the net with two goals from Kelly Brady, and goals from Katherine Sullivan and Hazel Donnegan.
While it was another disapointing result for DLR there were positives to take from the performance. The midfield three of Nadine Clare, Neema Nyangasi, and Keelin Dodd were energetic and disruptive. Leah Donnelly had a good game at left back and created chances. Taylor White was good going forward.
The MediaHuis player of the match was Athlone Town’s Katherine Sullivan.
