Waves Finish All-Island Cup Campaign With Draw

DLR Waves 1-1 Treaty United
Whitehall Stadium, Saturday 18th May

In the final round of games in the All-Island Cup group stages DLR Waves earned a commendable 1-1 draw against Treaty United.

Having lost to the Limerick side earlier in the season, The Waves were much improved at Whitehall Stadium and were particularly impressive in the first half.

After a bright start Michelle Doonan put the home side ahead with just 10 minutes gone. The goal game from The Waves breaking up the play from a Treaty throw-in and launching a counter attack. The ball arrived at the feet of Robyn Bolger, who played in Michelle Doonan. Michelle beat the defense and finished well into the far corner to net her second goal of the season.

DLR Waves continued to create chances while defending doggedly. Towards the end of the first half Treaty United equalized when Stefanie Young finished well.

The second half was a back and forth affair with both sides creating chances. Both boxes saw moments of chaos and either side could have scored a second goal. There were some concerns for The Waves as Robyn Bolger and Eve Conheady both had to go off injured. They will be assessed this week.

Cliodhna Donnelly made her first start of the season. Jess Gleeson played a 2nd consecutive 90 minutes having returned from injury the previous week. Gleeson and Chloe McCarthy were solid in the centre-back positions and cut out Treaty attacks well. Amber Cosgrove showed an excellent work rate throughout the game constantly turning defense into attack. Michelle Doonan was the star of the show for DLR Waves with here tireless running and dangerous movement complementing her goal.

It was a well-earned point for DLR Waves. The other game in group C finished 2-2 between Shamrock Rovers and Crusaders Strikers. The results mean Shamrock Rovers and Treaty United progress to the Quarter-Finals with Rovers topping the group on Goal difference.

DLR Waves can take plenty of confidence from the performance into the upcoming games either side of the international break.
