Positives in Defeat for DLR Waves at Tallaght Stadium

Shamrock Rovers 1-0 DLR Waves
SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division
Saturday 21st September 2024, Tallaght Stadium

Stephanie Zambra’s goal made the difference in a competitive affair at Tallaght Stadium.

DLR Waves can take positives from their performance, particularly in their defensive display throughout the first half. Shamrock Rovers had more of the attacking play in the opening 45 minutes. Eve Badana was called into action in her return to starting for The Waves and pulled off some big saves. A back 3 of Jess Gleeson, Rebecca McMahon, and Chloe McCarthy were well-organized in cutting out attacks from The Hoops. Shanon Coady had the best chance for DLR in the first half when her chipped shot was saved by Amanda Budden.

In the second The Waves created more chances. However the scoring was opened through Zambra around the hour mark, who poked home the ball when Lia O’Leary’s shot wasn’t cleared. The Waves pushed for an equalizer with Aisling Meehan causing problems for the home sides defense. Meehan’s header late on nearly found the back of the net. In the end DLR couldn’t find the goal they needed.
