The draw for the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup First round was made with DLR Waves set to face Whitehall Rangers.
The draw was made on Tuesday June 6th following the Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup draw. 14 teams will play in the first round, 4 of which are non-league sides. The cup holders Athlone Town were given a bye to the Quarter-Finals.
The Waves will be at home to Whitehall Rangers with ties being played during the weekend of August 4th. The game is likely to take place at the UCD Bowl on Saturday August 3rd but the time and date for the fixture have not been confirmed. We will provide updates when the kick-off times, dates, and venues for the fixture are confirmed.
Sports Direct FAI Cup ties have to be won on the day with no replays being played. If the scores are level after 90 minutes the game will go to extratime and potentially penalties. The 7 winners of the first round ties will join Athlone Town in the Quarter-Final draw.
Whitehall Rangers were the Women’s FAI Intermediate Cup Winners in 2022, the competition would be rebranded as the Women’s FAI Amateur Cup the following year.
Last season DLR Waves made it to the Quarter-Finals of the FAI Cup, knocking out Wexford on penalties in the first round.
