The TV cameras will be on the UCD Bowl when DLR Waves host Bohemians on Saturday June 29th with the match kicking off at 19:35. With the game being shown live on TG4 it is the first time DLR Waves have had a home match televised. Tickets for the match are available now.
TG4 League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division Coverage Continues
It’s the 4th successive season in which TG4 are broadcasting live League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division matches. DLR Waves featured in the first live game shown in a match that saw the Waves narrowly beaten by eventual champions Shelbourne.
This season TG4 have committed to showing more Women’s action than ever before on live TV. Already we’ve seen cup holders Athlon Town take on champions Peamount United, a Dublin derby between Cork City and Treaty United, and high-flying Galway away to Shamrock Rovers. The Dublin derby of DLR Waves vs Bohemians will be the 4th game shown live with 8 more matches to be announced.
DLR Waves vs Bohemians: A Game With Added Spice
With 5 Dublin-based teams in the League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division there is no shortage of derbies for the Waves. However DLR Waves vs Bohemians is the derby which our supporters club considers to be the clubs biggest rivalry.
And there’s no shortage of added spice to this match up with so much crossover between the teams in terms of players. This season Ken Kiernan’s Bohemians side features the likes of Lynn Craven, Aoife Brophy, Sarah McKevitt, and Shauna Carroll who all played for DLR Waves in recent years. The Waves will be familiar with Fiona Donnelly who made over 50 appearances for the club and Katie Malone who only moved last season.
From a DLR Waves point of view Hannah Tobin Jones, Oleta Griffin, Izzy Finnegan, Bronagh Kane, Eve Conheady, Freya Roche, and Robyn Bolger all played for next weekend’s opposition. Rugile Auskalnyte also had a spell with Bohemians and would make her senior DLR Waves debut in a 0-0 draw between the sides in 2022.

DLR Waves Looking For Second Win of the Season
It’s a huge occasion for DLR Waves, not only for the TV camera’s, but to return pick back up on a decent run of form. Before last week’s defeat away to an in-form Wexford side The Waves had gone unbeaten in 3 matches.
It’s been a trying campaign for a largely young Waves side with injuries. Captain and key player Jess Gleeson had a period on the sidelines, and midfield star Neema Nyangasi has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. An abundance of injuries saw Laura Heffernan have to use the entire squad including youth players like Keelin Dodd, Nadine Raymond, and Aisling Meehan. The Waves were able to find some form after a difficult run of results with an unbeaten run of 3 games across all competitions. The Waves battled to a draw against Treaty United in the All-Island Cup before putting in a fantastic performance against Peamount United to draw 2-2 in a game The Waves were unlucky not to win. The first win of the season did come following the international break with a 2-0 victory at home to Sligo Rovers.

Despite going through spells without key players there have been plenty of standout performers this season. Young goalkeeper Auskalnyte has put together good performances when called upon, proving to be worthy competition for the number 1 jersey against ever reliable Ireland international Eve Badana. In front of the goalkeeper in defence new signing Chloe McCarthy has been consistently good at the back, playing with a calmness beyond her years. In midfield Izzy Finnegan has played in every game so far, with last season’s players’ player of the year enjoying an excellent season. The star of the show has been striker Michelle Doonan who has bagged 4 goals so far this season and ran tirelessly in every appearance. Since her return captain Gleeson hasn’t missed a step in martialing the back 4.
With the season approaching the midway point The Waves want another victory to set them up for a good run at the business end of the season. With an FAI Cup first round match against Whitehall Rangers to come in August and fixtures against the other 10 sides that make up the league, there’s plenty of big moments to come. The Waves will be hoping that the next big moment comes next Saturday when the cameras are on the UCD Bowl.
