DLR Waves 0-4 Galway United
SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division
UCD Bowl, September 14th 2024
A frantic 5-minute first half spell saw DLR Waves concede 3 goals in a game the side ultimately lost 0-4.
Galway United had the better of things in the first half, and took the lead in the 9th minute with a bullet header from player of the match Jamie Erickson. Not even a minute had gone by when the visitors doubled their advantage with a fine volley from Amanda Smith. Shortly after Emily Kavanagh made her way through the middle of the pitch to fire in a 3rd goal. With not even 15 minutes gone it was a long way back already for DLR against a team chasing the league title.
The Waves closed out the half on more equal footing but still were conceding chances. Rugile Auskalnyte had to pull off a big save against Ireland international Julie-Ann Russell. The Waves pressed the Galway defense hard but couldn’t get anything back before halftime.
The Waves improved in the second half and began to create a bit more, with Galway still having more of the ball. The Tribeswomen got a 4th late on with a freekick going into the net off a Waves player.
