Athlone Town 3-0 DLR Waves

The damage was done in the first half as DLR Waves lost out 3-0 at Athlone Town Stadium. Athlone enjoyed the vast majority of attacking play in the first half and scored 2 minutes into the game through Roisin Molloy. 10 minutes on Athlone doubled their lead when Kate Slevin found Chloe Singleton who turned the ball in. Athlone had more chances throughout the opening half and were denied a 3rd by Eve Badana who pulled off an excellent save. The hosts would eventually find their 3rd goal with Singleton benefiting from a goal mouth scramble.
The second half kicked-off with Waves introducing Chloe McCarthy and the returning Freya Roche. Waves were the better side in the early exchanges of the 2nd period but couldn’t carve out a clear cut goal chance. From the hour mark on Athlone came back into the game and the Midlands club were on top for the last 15 minutes. There were encouraging signs for Waves during the 2nd half but it was a deserved win for Athlone.
Chloe Singleton was awarded player of the match with Madison Gibson also standing out as a good performer. Eve Badana captained Waves in Jess Gleeson’s continued absence through injury, while Keelin Dodd made her first senior start. Freya Roche made her return from injury and Nadine Raymond appeared for the senior side for the first time this season.
