Waves Beaten at Markets Field

Treaty United vs DLR Waves

Treaty United 2-0 DLR Waves
16th March, Markets Field

It was a frustrating evening for DLR Waves as they were beaten 2-0 away to Treaty United.

The opening exchanges were tense and scrappy, with the first chance of the match coming for the home side off a freekick. Amber Cosgrove was book for a challenge, the resulting freekick resulted in a scramble in the box with a shot going just over the bar. Neither side had many clear cut chances in the opening half, with Treaty’s centre-backs performing well and Jess Gleeson cutting out attacks from the home side. Treaty had more of the attacking play in the first half but it remained scoreless until the break.

Waves would introduce Bronagh Kane and Amy Ryan for Nadine Seward and Robyn Bolger at halftime. Treaty continued to be on top with the goal eventually coming from Katie Lawlee in the 53rd minute, the forward provided a good finish in a crowded box. DLR Waves longest serving player Nicole Keogh was introduced into the game moments later. From there Eve Badana was the busier of the two goalkeepers (both coincidentally Canadian born) and was forced into a good save just after the hour mark. However from the second of the resulting corners a bullet header from Erin van Dolder doubled Treaty’s lead.

The game died down from there. In a final roll of the dice Cliodhna Donnelly came on from Neema Nyangasi. Kane was booked just after. Waves were limited to a few chances with Treaty dominating posession and defending extremely well. Cosgrove had a half chance late on but on a rare occasion Anne Marie Ulliac was called upon she got down well to smother the ball. In the 3 minutes added on at the end of the game Badana was forced to make another save and deny Treaty United a 3rd goal.

No complaints about the result from a Waves point of few as Treaty were the better team on the day. DLR will look to bounce back next week in the All-Island Cup.
