Waves Battle To Earn Draw Against Cork

DLR Waves 1-1 Cork City
April 13th, UCD Bowl

Eve O’Brien scored her first goal of the season to ensure DLR Waves took a point from Saturday’s game against Cork City.

Cork City had the better of the first half. The Waves were forced to do a lot of defending early on. In Jess Gleeson’s absence Chloe McCarthy and Hannah Tobin Jones started beside each other at centre back for the first time.

A goal was coming for the visitors who went in front when Eva Mangan’s cross found it’s way to Lauara Shine who finished confidently.

The Waves found it difficult to muster up much going forward in the first half. Despite good wing play from Aisling Meehan, and Michelle Doonan making some good runs, the home side couldn’t find an equalizer before halftime.

DLR were much improved in the second half and managed to find their way into the game. Both sides threatened from set pieces. Eventually Waves would equalize just before the 80th minute mark. Neema Nyangasi flew down the wing and played a ball in to Michelle Doonan. The ball fell to Nadine Seward who laid it back to Eve O’Brien. Making her return after a break due to injury O’Brien finished well from outside of the box to level the scores.
