DLR Waves Eliminated from All-Island Cup Following Defeat at Tallaght Stadium

Shamrock Rovers vs DLR Waves All Island Cup

Shamrock Rovers 4-0 DLR Waves
20th April, Tallaght Stadium

It was a disappointing afternoon at Tallaght Stadium for DLR Waves as a 4-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers saw the away side eliminated from the All-Island Cup.

Chances were few and far between for Waves as Shamrock Rovers dominated possession and had the majority of the attacking play. The home side opened the scoring in the first half with a solid finish from former Wave Joy Ralph. Lia O’Leary made it 2-0 before the break.

The Hoops would get a 3rd and 4th goal through Aine O’Gorman and a late strike from Ella Kelly, the latter getting her first senior goal. DLR found it hard to carve out any chances and were defending for most of the game.

A bright spark for DLR Waves was Rugile Auskalnyte making her 2nd appearance of the season. The Lithuanian born goalkeeper kept the score down and pulled off an excellent save midway through the second half as she got her hand to the ball to tap a chipped effort over the bar.

DLR Waves were without many regulars with captain Jess Gleeson still injured and Neema Nyangasi also out with an injury. In Gleeson’s absence Michelle Doonan wore the armband for the majority of the game, with Nicole Keogh taking over as captain when she replaced the striker.

A difficult day for a young DLR Waves side with plenty of lessons to take into the remainder of the season. Waves still have one game to go in the All-Island Cup group stage which will be against Treaty United in Whitehall Stadium in May. Treaty were victorious in the other round 2 group game with a 0-2 victory of Crusaders Strikers. Shamrock Rovers and Treaty United are separated at the top of the group table only by goal difference with Crusaders Strikers just a point behind. All 3 teams can still progress to the quarter finals with the sides finishing 1st and 2nd progressing.
